Following a conversation
There are four main ways that you can end up following a conversation and receiving updates about it
By claiming or being assigned that conversation
By explicitly following it via the bell button
You've set up a rule to automatically follow particular labels
By being @-mentioned in a comment
When any of these happen, you are now following that conversation and will be notified about any new content.
Psst. There's a secret other way too
There's one other less-common way you may begin following a conversation: when someone in your team starts a new conversation or replies to an existing one, they have the option of subscribing you as part of the action of sending that message. This will notify you about that message, as well as any future updates to the conversation.
This is really useful when you know that someone ought to be looped in and know about the response you're sending.
